It has been cold here in South Carolina, which is a rare treat. I like the cold, but even this weather is getting a tad ridiculous.
As readers can imagine, I spend a great deal of time inside my own head, and am constantly in dialogue with myself (it still blows my mind that some people don’t have an internal dialogue or monologue). That dialogue is often out loud. It also consists mostly of me saying silly things that amuse me. One of them is a pet phrase that I’ll utter on particularly cold days: “The bitter, wretched cold.” I’ll tug my collar or coat tighter around me, and I saw it with a slight British accent, like I’m a character in a Dickensian novella. I also roll the “r” in wretched. The whole thing is a quite amusing, at least to me.
To embrace the frostiness of this weekend—and the chance of snow!—I thought I’d take a moment to look back at some cold-related posts of yesteryear:

Hahahaha, thanks. Today is actually warmer than it has been—it’s currently 52 degrees Fahrenheit, but the high today is 60. That’s because of the rain coming in on a warm front. Monday will see the temperature locally range from a low of 25 degrees Fahrenheit to a high of 39 degrees Fahrenheit. There is some kind of massive cold front pushing down from the Arctic; apparently, it’s going to be so cold in D.C. that Trump’s Inauguration is being moved indoors. The rest of the week we’ll be in the 20s-40s until the weekend. That’s pretty cold for us in this subtropical climate! 😂😂😂

Colder than I thought then. Still, that’s par for the course here. Our recent arctic blast was around minus 4/5 but where my brother is in Stalyvegas, it hit -9/10 recently (around -50f). Your Summers must be pretty hot though. We can always hope for 30-35C which Tina says is too hot but which I quite enjoy. On average, it’ll lounge at 25.

Our summers are brutal. June can be quite nice, but July and August (and a good chunk of September) are miserable. The heat is bad enough—often in the upper 90-degrees Fahrenheit, and not infrequently between 100-105 degrees Fahrenheit—but the humidity is absolutely killer. There are times I’ll step outside in the summer and it’s like getting punched in the face. It’s great for going to the pool or the beach, but it makes most everything else a slog.
I love our winters here in South Carolina. They never get as cold as what your brother endures, but cold enough that I can wear nice clothes without breaking into a greasy sweat.

June is my birthday month and a couple of years ago, it was 86F. We popped down to our local pub while dangling our legs into the river over a pint or few, the sun on our backs. Simple but the best birthday I’ve ever had.
