I can’t get enough of short stories lately, it seems. Perhaps it’s because I recently published a collection of my absurdist detective stories, but I’ve been on even more of a short stories kick than usual recently.
Indeed, I’m hoping to write some original short stories this summer (and hopefully some new songs, too). I’m not sure if it’s feasible, but I’d like to have a collection of new original stories out by the time school resumes. We shall see.

- “Spring Break Short Story Recommendations 2021, Part II: “The Personality Cult” – I read this wonderful story by Michael Noonan on Terror House Magazine, and enjoyed it so much I purchased a copy of Noonan’s book Seven Tall Tales, which I can also highly recommend. “The Personality Cult” explores what happens with a ruthless dictator develops a soft side and attempts to undo his own cult of personality.
- “Post-Spring Break Short Story Recommendation: “Dave’s Last Choice” – My buddy Jeremy Miles wrote this story on his blog, and it tells the story of Dave, who has unfortunately found himself quite dead. Dave must choose with whom he will spend eternity: a chill dude, or an overbearing schoolmarm. But looks can be deceiving, and with eternity staring him in the face, Dave had better choose wisely.
- “Midweek Short Story Recommendation: “The Visit That Wasn’t” – Another Terror House Magazine find, Adrian David‘s “The Visit That Wasn’t” flips the idea that “the grass is always greener on the other side” on its head—with a diabolical twist.
