The One-Minute Mysteries of Inspector Gerard has been out for a little over a month now, and so far, book sales have met my expectations (at the time of this writing, that’s ten Kindle editions and nineteen paperback copies). Naturally, I’d love to see that hit fifty copies.
It’s been a fun experience, especially promoting the book (two of the stories from the book were published yesterday at Terror House Magazine). One fun aspect has been sending PDF manuscripts (and author copies!) to blogger buddies to review. Here’s a round-up of the published reviews so far:
- “The One-Minute Mysteries of Inspector Gerard by Tyler James Cook – A Book Review” at Orion’s Cold Fire – photog was the first to come through with his review, probably the most thorough to date. He noted that the stories definitely read like I wrote them in high school, but he also appreciated the development over time. Hey—I’ll take it!
- “Godspeed to a Prince and a Leader” at Nebraska Energy Observer (tribute to Prince Phillip, with a brief Gerard review preceding) – NEO wrote a nice, succinct review of my book, with a bolded Recommend. He is a wise man.
- “Sunny Side Up Book Review—The One-Minute Mysteries of Inspector Gerard: The Ultimate Flatfoot” at Mogadishu Matt – Matt wrote a very generous review of the book, with probably my favorite line of any review so far: “Inspector Gerard is a departure from what we have been fed from procedural crime dramas. He is far from a third-rate failed male model. Gerard is no one’s every man. He serves as an indictment of the omniscient arbiter of justice.” “No one’s every man” has a nice ring to it. Thanks, Matt!
- “A Friend’s Book is Out and a New Poem” at Jeremy, A Musing in Several Parts – I actually know Jeremy in real life; his poetry is the subject of my post “The Creation of Culture” (and “TBT: The Creation of Culture“). I didn’t even realize he had a blog until recently, but he is one heck of a writer. Jeremy’s adventures in self-publishing inspired my own first steps into the field, so I owe him a huge debt, even before this wonderful review.
Happy Sunday!
