Leftovers IV is out Today!

Pickup my newest release, Leftovers IVGet 80% off with promo code hamThat’s 80% off ANYTHING and EVERYTHING on my Bandcamp page, including the album, full discography purchases, merch, etc.!

Want to play the sax?  Read my ultimate guide to getting started for under $350.

Wanna be utterly perplexed while laughing uproariously?  Grab a copy of my first book, The One-Minute Mysteries of Inspector Gerard: The Ultimate Flatfoot (that’s an Amazon Affiliate link, so I’ll receive a portion of any purchase made through that link, at no additional cost to you—plus I’ll get the book royalties).

My latest EP, Leftovers IV, is out today!  It should be on all streaming platforms, but as of the time of writing, my distributor, CD Baby, has yet to review the EP for release.  It’s $5, but with promo code ham it’s only $1.  My full discography typically goes for $72.14, but with promo code ham it’s $14.23, or roughly $0.55 per release.  Twenty-six albums, constituting over eight hours of music, for $0.55 per release is ludicrous.  But I need the money—desperately.  <–That’s not a joke, either.

October 2024 Bandcamp Friday: Spooky Season III!

Pickup my newest release: Spooky Season III!  Use promo code spooky to take an additional 20% off all purchases on Bandcamp!  Code expires at 11:59 PM UTC on Thursday, 31 October 2024.

Ah, yes, Bandcamp Friday has returned, which means I hope you will consider pitching in a few bucks to buy my music—or my second book!  It’s the most magical Friday of the month!

The first Friday of a bunch of months in 2024 will feature this pro-indie music observance, a day on which Bandcamp waives its usual 15% commission on sales.  Today (Friday, 6 September 2024) is one of those days.

In other words, when you buy my music, almost 100% of it goes to me, instead of almost 85%.

Naturally, yours portly has a brand new release, and my longest to date:  Spooky Season III is available now on BandcampApple MusicYouTube/YouTube MusicAmazon Music, etc., etc.—pretty much anywhere and everywhere digital streaming is available—including, for the first time in nearly a year, Spotify!

Spooky Season III is forty-one (41) minutes of Halloween-ish jams, from the driving opener “Heavy Metal Mummy” to the creaking creepiness of “A Haunted House” to frightful “Flight of the Vampire Bats” and more.   SSIII features pieces in multiple genres:  heavy metal, rock, country-western, classical, Romantic, smooth 70s pop, and, of course, Halloween music!

My full discography is 50% off (and the 20% promo code spooky can be used for that, too), so it’s only $57.14 to purchase twenty-two releases.  That’s just $2.80 per release—and dozens of hours of music, not to mention hundreds of megabytes of musical scores, artwork, liner notes, videos, and other goodies that are packed onto nearly every release.

With the 20% promo code spooky the total comes down to $45.71, or $2.08 per release.

My plan is to release (at least) one more album or EP this year, Leftovers III, which should release Friday, 29 November 2024 (the day after Thanksgiving).  That’ll make ten releases in 2024.

Thank you for your support, and rock on!

September 2024 Bandcamp Friday: New Release!

Pickup my newest release: Math: And Other Delights now!  Use promo code math to take an additional 20% off all purchases on Bandcamp!  Code expires at 11:59 PM UTC on Sunday, 8 September 2024.

Ah, yes, Bandcamp Friday has returned, which means I hope you will consider pitching in a few bucks to buy my music—or my second book!  After a long hiatus over the summer months, this celebration of indie musicians is back.

Naturally, yours portly has a brand new release, and one of my longest to date:  Math: And Other Delights is available now on Bandcamp, Apple Music, YouTube/YouTube Music, Amazon Music, etc., etc.—pretty much anywhere and everywhere digital streaming is available (except for Spotify).

Math: And Other Delights is a collection of mathematically- and historically-themed pieces that explore various mathematical concepts, from “π” to “Pythagoras.” Travel through the circle of fifths and fourths; examine “Prime Numbers“; experience “π” musically; scry mathematical mysticism with “Pythagoras“; and chill with some melodies based on seventh and ninth intervals with “Chill Extensions.”

Too many numbers? Enjoy a “Promenade” or a little “Impromptu and Waltz in E major.” Get excited to explore with “Onward!” Or relive the last moments of the legendary ice man, “Ötzi.”

Currently, my entire discography of twenty-one releases is $53.64a savings of 50%, which is not bad for twenty-one releases.  That’s about $2.55 per release—not too shabby!  To purchase the full discography, click on any release, and you’ll see the option to purchase all of them.

Also, use promo code math to take an additional 20% off any purchase through the weekend (expires after 11:59 PM UTC on 8 September 2024).

Thank you for your support—and rock on!

White Boy Summer Out Today!

Yours portly keeps churning out the hits, and I’m pleased to announce my seventh album this year, White Boy Summer.

White Boy Summer is a collection of ten summertime jams spanning multiple genres of instrumental music.  The title track is a driving retro rocker reminiscent of Super Nintendo side-scrollers, and is perfect for jamming to on the open road.  I also rewrote it as a chorale for the album’s finale, “White Boy Summa (Theologica),” a piece for brass trio.

This album heavily favors trombone, and the three major trombone pieces emphasize the chill nature of summertime:  “Mellow,” “Lazy River,” and “Summer Vibes.”

The Sea Crab” is the most experimental piece; it’s a musical interpretation of an unpublished poem of the same name by Liza Libes.

And, despite the title, White Boy Summer is for all people of all races—and both genders.

You can pick it up on Bandcamp for $7.  I’ll be posting links to the album on other streaming platforms in the comments.

Rock on!

P.S.—Here are a couple of the tracks that have already been uploaded to YouTube:

December 2023 Bandcamp Friday

Here we are again—another Bandcamp Friday.  There’s never been a better time to buy my music.

I released a new EP on Black Friday (24 November 2023), Leftovers.  It’s a short EP of four tracks leftover from my recent composing projects, including an epic-length, eight-minute-plus track from the never-completed Electrock III called “Futura (Magnum Opus III).”  Here’s the delicious album cover:

Leftovers

Tangy!

The first Friday of a bunch of months in 2023—February, March, April, May, August, September, October, November, and December—will feature this pro-indie music observance, a day on which Bandcamp waives its usual 15% commission on sales.

In other words, when you buy my music, almost 100% of it goes to me, instead of almost 85%.

Currently, my entire discography of thirteen releases is $23.39a savings of 50%, which is not bad for thirteen releases.  That’s $1.80 per release—not too shabby!  To purchase the full discography, click on any release, and you’ll see the option to purchase all of them.

You can also listen to a ton of my tunes on YouTube (and it’s free to subscribe!).

My first book, The One-Minute Mysteries of Inspector Gerard: The Ultimate Flatfoot, is $10 in paperback, and just $5 on Kindle.

My second and newest book, Arizonan Sojourn, South Carolinian Dreams: And Other Adventures, is $20 in paperback and $10 on Kindle.

Finally, after I finish Offensive Poems: With Pictures, my planned third book, I’ll be uploading those doodles to Society6 as well.  I have high hopes (perhaps naïvely) for this book, but we shall see.  The doodles are some of my best work—and in glorious color—and without notebook paper lines!

Thanks again for your support!

Happy Friday!

It’s been a prolific year for short-form electronic composing for yours portly.  I’ve released three albums and/or EPs in the past three months:  Spooky SeasonSpooky Season II: Rise of the Cryptids, and Leftovers.  They’re all available on Bandcamp, but also on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, etc.

Happy Sunday!

Other Lazy Sunday Installments:

New Release Out Today: “Leftovers”

My latest release, the EP Leftovers, is out today!  You can pick it up on my Bandcamp page for $5, or you can stream it on Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube, and pretty much every other streaming service out there.

My favorite track on the release is “Futura (Magnum Opus III)“; it’s the longest electronic instrumental piece I’ve ever composed, and it’s languished on a hard drive for ten years.  Now it’s finally seeing the light of day.

The other three tracks are pieces I composed and/or arranged while working on Spooky Season and Spooky Season II: Rise of the Cryptids, but which didn’t fit the themes of those albums—thus this EP’s title!.  They include “Augmented Fifthality” (an experiment in augmented fifths); “Carousel” (a bouncy bit of classical composing); and “Chorale for a Sleepy Wednesday Afternoon” (a laid-back little instrumental chorale).

I’d be honored if you gave these Leftovers a listen.

March Bandcamp Friday: New Release!

After a lot of frantic composing and sloppy recording, it’s here: Péchés d’âge moyen, my short collection of twelve original piano miniatures.

My self-imposed deadline was today, the March 2022 Bandcamp Friday.  I made it—barely!

The total recording clocks in at just six minutes and thirty-five seconds, but I’ve jam-packed this release with bonus features:  videos, original manuscripts of each piece, and a PDF booklet detailing the origins of the project.  It’s not bad for $5 (although that comes out to approximately $1.43 per minute if you just listen to the album once).

I also had a blast putting this recording together.  The feel of putting pen to paper is just so satisfying, and each little bit of written music is like its own little work of art.  One reason I included the manuscripts with the recording is because they’re beautiful to look at—even with my poor penmanship.

Supporting Friends Friday: Frederick Ingram’s “Initial Exposure”

Just last week I wrote about my friend Frederick Ingram‘s new Christmas jam, “Jesus of Nazareth (Walked into a Bar).”  What I didn’t realize is that the tune was a part of a new album—really a double EP—that Frederick has been quietly assembling.

(Note that I’ll refer to Frederick Ingram as “Frederick” here on out, as I know him personally and consider him a friend.  I know the standard is to use the artist’s last name in subsequent mentions, and if some big city alternative paper picks up this review, I’ll happily edit it accordingly.  For this blog, though, I’m keeping it on a the first-name basis. —TPP)

The record—which drops today!—is Initial Exposure, and it combines tracks from two EPs from earlier this year:  June 2021’s Initial Exposure and November 2021’s Culture Exposure (which features the song about Jesus delivering His Message in a hopping nightspot).

I’ll confess that, at the time of writing, I have not listened to all of the ten tracks on the LP (but I did buy it on Bandcamp!), though I have heard several of them before, both live and recorded versions.  As such, this post is not a review of the album, per se, but instead a way to help give Initial Exposure some, uh, initial exposure.
