In a continuing celebration of my chunky dog Murphy’s twelfth birthday, I’ve got some more Murphy videos for your enjoyment. These videos are feature Murphy doing what she does best (besides eating): lounging like a French duchess.

My old bull terrier, Murphy, turns twelve this Sunday, 15 June 2025. I adopted Murphy when she was eight, so we’ve been together for nearly four years.
After a bit of a hiatus, I have some fun new Murphy videos. She is doing very well for her age, but the old girl is slowing down a bit. She can handle stairs fine, but sometimes she has to do them at her pace.
So, settle in for a couple of videos of Murphy in her battle against steps (and canine aging):
Yours portly was a bit late getting Halloween decorations up this year, but with the Spooktacular looming (it’s tomorrow night!), I had to get things done!
Naturally, that meant partaking in one of my favorite October activities: pumpkin carving! Today, I’m going to share a couple of videos of my pumpkin—and Murphy!
The older I get, the more I appreciate animals. My parents have just taken in two precious kittens—a brother and a sister—and watching their cantering and playing is adorable. It’s also a good reminder of the playfulness of youth, in both humans and animals, and how enjoying that playfulness keeps us young, even if we’re not as spry as we used to be.
God Created some amazing stuff. The sheer biodiversity of our world is awe-inspiring, and demonstrates that our God Is Awesome. We serve an amazing Lord.
With that, here is 15 September 2023’s “Remarkable Animals“:
It’s back to school tomorrow, and as a music teacher, I’m in a musical mood. So here some posts that feature me singing bad cover songs to my dog:
Happy Sunday!

Well, I’m back to the grind. Who knows what fresh miseries I am currently enduring?
Fortunately, dear readers, you get to watch videos of my fat bull terrier, Murphy!
This week I’ve got Murphy attempting to eat peanut butter and giving potentially lethal kisses:
Roughly three years ago I adopted by dog, Murphy. She is a bull terrier—think of Spuds MacKenzie or the Target dog, Bullseye—and is now eleven-years old.
Murphy is still much the same as she has always been. She’s a bit slower now than she was when I first got her, but if she sees a squirrel or a bird or a cat, she can really hoof it.
These days, she spends most of the time lounging next to me when I’m home, or lounging out in the sun. During our recent trip to see my older brother in Indianapolis, she took great pleasure in his small backyard, which had plenty of sunny spots for her to enjoy.

She also really enjoyed his couch.

She is a good, sweet, stubborn old girl, and I’m very thankful for her. She’s my chocolate chunklet.

My fat dog Murphy is the gift that keeps on giving. Well, actually, she’s a huge drain on my financial and temporal resources, but, hey, who can put a price tag on love?
But back to that gift giving comment. Murphy does bring in the views to my YouTube channel, which—like most of my artistic endeavors—would probably be a massive flop if I didn’t have a cute, sassy, ornery dog to showcase to the content-hungry masses.
So, here are the three latest editions of Phone it in Friday featuring my lovable, stinky bull terrier, Murphy:

The Murphtent (Murphy content) on my humble YouTube channel has really helped the channel grow. Unfortunately, I’ve been stalled at about 126 subs (at the time of writing) for about a couple of weeks. Perhaps you, dear readers, can make some magic happen? Wouldn’t it be glorious for yours portly to be monetizing his fat dog by the end of the year? All it takes is 500 subs and 3000 (!!!) watch hours. I’m sure some of you know 500 people with unlimited free time, hmmm? I know for a fact that several of my readers have nothing but free time. Get to watchin’!
In all seriousness, here is what to expect this week: Murphy ensconced in pillowy comfort; Murphy sunbathing; and a special guest appearance by my dad’s dogs (and my unfortunate father) at a local graveyard—spooky!:
Longtime readers will recall that I adopted my chunky dog, Murphy, through The Bull Terrier Rescue Mission, a group dedicated to finding home for members of this comical, stubborn, oft-misunderstood breed. They do really remarkable work through a system of volunteers, and really go to great lengths to get these dogs to their new homes.
On Thursday, 14 December 2023, I received a message from the executive director checking in on Murphy. I hear from him about once or twice a year, so didn’t think much of it. He then asked if I’d be able to help transport a dog to Eastover, North Carolina, on Saturday, 16 December 2023, as part of the pup’s journey north. After making sure my schedule was clear, I agreed to lend a hand.
The dog’s name was Mavis, and her ultimate destination was a family in the New Jersey/New York area. I was the second leg of her journey. A couple from around Savannah, Georgia, drove a considerable distance and handed her off to me at a Krispy Kreme in Florence, South Carolina (a decidedly sweet and delicious place to pick up a sweet puppy). My task was then to drive her to Fox’s Pizza Den (naturally, I loved this route) in Eastover, North Carolina, where a young man would continue Mavis along her freedom ride.
I’ve never done this kind of canine transport before, but I was thankful for the opportunity, and that God opened up the door for me to be part of Mavis’s journey home. Saturday, 16 December 2023 was literally my last free Saturday of the calendar year, so it worked out perfectly.
