LEGO® Star Wars™ 2024 Advent Calendar – Days 1-3

As is my custom, I’ve obtained the LEGO® Star Wars™ 2024 Advent Calendar, and have been enjoying it immensely so far.  It seems to be themed around The Empire Strikes Back (1980) so far, with Luke’s X-Wing, cinnamon bun Leia, and a classic TIE Fighter.

Paid subscribers get to see these videos on the day I open each calendar door, but I’m posting the videos to YouTube the following day (for the most part).  I’ll also be sharing collections of multiple days of videos—like today’s post—throughout the Christmas Season.

What a difference a year makes!  Trump is back—and America with him.  What a time to be alive!

It is, perhaps, a good reminder that the vagaries of the American election cycle are too unpredictable and short-term for us to pin our hopes and dreams on any one election.  I’d argue, however, that this year’s presidential election is the exception.  It was, in many ways, the culmination of many years of struggle and torment, even pre-dating the first Trump administration.

Regardless, it’s worth remembering that things are often darkest before the dawn.  And it is morning in America, baby!

After the ultra-patriotism of last week, it seems only fitting to take a day to honor those who were the ultra-ultra-patriots:  the men who fought and sometimes died for their country.

I don’t have much to add here that hasn’t already been said, but I am thankful for those who gave their service and even their lives so that we might be free.  Nothing is more quintessentially American.

Can you feel it, dear reader, the paradoxical sense of relief and excitement cutting through the air?  The spirit of optimism and vigor percolating in the coffee pot of our body politic?  The determination to get it right—and Right—this time?

America is back, baby—and this time, it’s personal.

That’s always been my favorite tagline for cheesy action sequels, but with President Trump’s approaching second term, it’s particularly apt.  Trump II: The MAGAnificent Seven already broke ballot box records.  Trump is back—and, again, this time, it’s personal.

I know, I know—“we should temper our optimism,” I hear the wags—“scala-” and otherwise—clucking.  “Politicians have let us down before.”  In some ways, even Trump let us down before.

But we’re dealing with a man who has transformed, I would argue, fundamentally.  This Trump isn’t the Trump of 2016, surrounding himself with a coterie of sycophants and Washington insiders.  This Trump has survived an assassin’s bullet.  He’s survived political persecution and “criminal” prosecution, often at the hands of the very sycophants who claimed to love him.  Trump is a scorned groom who is about to set his duplicitous lover’s house on fire.

Instead of Washington insiders and Boomer Con darlings (I’m looking at your, John Bolton), Trump’s next administration is going to be the cool table in the cafeteria:  Elon Musk, J.D. Vance, RFK Jr., Vivek Ramaswamy, Joe Rogan, RFK’s cute running mate (Shanahan?), and a whole lot of other hyper-intelligent super geniuses and bros.  We’re about to witness the most masculine presidency since at least Theodore Roosevelt’s.

Buckle up, buttercup—it’s gonna be one wild and fun ride.

TBT: Trumparion Rising

Holy crap—America is back, baby!  The garbage took out the trash—and re-elected Donald Trump to another (non-consecutive) four-year term.

What a ride.  All through Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, I felt like I was living in a dream—a replay of 2016, but even better.

2016 had a raw sense of excitement and uncertainty about it.  Everyone in MAGA World was having fun because we really didn’t think Trump would pull it off against the globalist oligarchs and the Clinton Machine (some people did see his potential even then—God Bless them!—and knew that The Teflon Don would slay the Wicked Witch of Davos).

2024 also had that raw excitement, but it was seasoned with experience.  We knew Trump.  And we knew Biden/Harris.  The choice was clear, and easy.  Trump is bringing with him national renewal and, I pray, revival.

The men carried home this election, I think.  No disrespect to the ladies for their role, but this was the most masculine election in modern American history.  Men finally said, “enough!,” got off the couch, and voted.  Seeing as the other side totally hates us, it was a no-brainer.  Any man that voted for Kamala Harris is gay, a eunuch, or a cuckold—period.  Eh, maybe some well-meaning, befuddled Boomer “Cons” voted that way to defend “conservative” “principles,” but they’re metaphorically castrated, if not physically so.  Good riddance to David French and his simpering, effete ilk.

I’ve been hearing a lot of commentators refer to Trump as a “world-historic” figure.  I’d never thought of it so explicitly, but it’s true:  he is The Man for This Hour.  I sincerely believe he has been ordained by God to lead an American renewal.  There’s no other explanation for how he survived that assassination attempt.

America is Great Again

At the time of writing, it appears that Donald Trump is going to be the President of the United States again.

It’s around 12:11 AM on Wednesday, 6 November 2024, and while vote totals are still rolling in, the New York Times is showing Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan leaning towards Trump, with North Carolina and Georgia safely sewed up.

Unless there were some nocturnal shenanigans, America is Great Again.

Election Day in America

Well, here it is—Election Day.  Millions of ballots have already been cast, but yours portly believes in going to the polls on the day itself.  God Willing, I’ll be there casting my ballot for Donald J. Trump about thirty minutes after this post is published.

I don’t have much to say, but I am cautiously optimistic.  Kamala Harris has all the appeal of a wet blanket that slept its way into power.  Donald Trump is like a suave gorilla caring for its young.  In other words, if you’re voting for Kamala Harris, you’re either an HR czarina or an aggressively gay man, and the last time I checked (note:  I haven’t), even gay men prefer suave gorillas.

Or, at the very least, you’re spiritually on the side of the HR czarinas if you support Harris.  I’ve never seen an election so starkly highlight the growing divide between single women and the rest of the country as much as this one.  Not even Shrillary in 2016 managed to combine schoolmarmishness with cringe-inducing cackling at this level.

I’m not focusing on the substantive issues at this point because a.) everyone has already made up their minds by this point and b.) Kamala Harris is entirely lacking in substance.

But life was good under President Trump the first time, and I suspect it will be again.  His stance on tariffs increasingly makes the free trade consensus of the last hundred years look foolish, the economists be damned.  Closing our borders economically is key to restoring American manufacturing; so is closing our border physically and legally.  We have got to clamp down on illegal and legal immigration.  I don’t care if I have to pay $40 for a shirt; by God, I want it made in America by Americans.  It’ll be the best shirt I’ve ever worn and will last a decade.

Regardless, if you’re on the fence or don’t think it matters, stop being a fig leaf and go vote for Trump.  Drive up that national vote!  Make this bad boy too big to steal.

I’ll be up late (hopefully not too late) watching the returns, and might do some Tweeting/X-ing on X.  Consider “tuning” in for my doughy reflections.

Yours portly is late to the party with this one, but, hey, is it ever truly too late to celebrate a full-scale immolation?

Or, as the title indicates, a defenestration, which is just a fancy way of saying, “throwing someone out of a window.”  That is very much how the vice presidential debate between Senator J.D. Vance and Governor Tim Walz felt a few weeks ago.  On the one side stood a mighty hillbilly culture warrior, ready to stand astride the debate stage like a Colossus.  On the other was a mealy-mouthed Elmer Fudd, who looked Elmer BeFuddled the entire time.

I am a high school history (and music!) teacher; while we do know a lot of stuff, that doesn’t mean we know how to apply it.  There is knowing a thing, and there is knowing it.  One of the biggest wakeup calls is going from the theoretical and abstract realm of the classroom and entering the real world; it becomes apparent pretty quickly that all that theory and knowledge amount to precious little if they can’t be equipped or adapted to handle Reality.

On Saturday I asked whether or not we had forgotten the events of 11 September 2001.  In asking, I noted that just two months after an attempt on President Trump’s life, we seemed to have already forgotten how close our nation was to bursting into the flames of political passion.

Well, Reality has a way of crashing back and reminding us of our foibles.  A second would-be assassin was apprehended a day after my rhetorical post—and exactly two months to the day after the first!  He concealed himself in a sniper’s nest for twelve hours, scoping out (literally) the golf course where President Trump would tee off Sunday.

The aged assassin looked pleased with himself:

I suspect the first assassination attempt was the result of elite powerbrokers looking the other way and allowing a troubled teen unprecedented rooftop access to take a shot at the President.  Maybe the kid was trained and coached, maybe he was just decided on his own that he’d take out a man the Left considers “literally Hitler” (one of the most absurd propositions ever put to paper).

This second attempt, I’d wager, was an instance where the gunman believed he was “saving democracy” through his actions.  Again, if you think our opponent—who will likely win the election—is “literally Hitler,” wouldn’t you stop at nothing to destroy his chances?  You don’t need a grand conspiracy when plenty of losers are looking for Leftist accolades.

What I find particularly disturbing is that we seem to be shrugging our collective shoulders.  The general attitude is, “well, that’s the way it is now.”  That attitude is unacceptable.
