Open Mic Adventures LXIV: “Snowfall”

Near the end of 2023, I closed out my latest music journal.  That got me flipping through some older journals, and I stumbled upon a couple of pieces I’d never arranged in Noteflight.

One of them was “Snowfall,” which I wrote sometime in 2022.  It’s based around an Eb whole tone scale, giving it a mysterious, mystical sound.

I’m particularly proud of this one, and I think you’ll like it, too.  Sometimes my Impressionistic little compositions don’t always capture the theme that I am attempting to portray musically, but I think “Snowfall” does the trick.

In order to save some storage space on WordPress—and to drive a wee bit more traffic to my YouTube channel—I’m just featuring the track on YouTube in today’s post (and will do likewise in most posts going forward).

Here is the original handwritten manuscript of “Snowfall,” which I modified slightly for the final composition:

  1. I maintain that your compositions would marry well to games, certainly indie titles where they like it short and weird. If anyone in Lamar is making a game and is looking for a composer, you should get involved.

    • Thanks, mate! I might need to reach a bit further afield than Lamar to find budding video game developers, but I appreciate the vote of confidence! I’d love to write a video game soundtrack at some point.

      • Maybe so but it might be useful to keep your ear out for the opportunity. Considering your itinerary though, I’m amazed you even find the time for a 33 second composition! 😉

        • The key is that I use almost every scrap of time working on _something_.

That said, it was amazing to spend the entire weekend unwinding in the mountains. I’ll post about it this weekend and send you a PDF of the essay (it’s probably going to be a series of them). Suzannah took some great pictures, and I got a few good ones, too. I feel totally refreshed.
