For the first time in four years, I’ve finally written and debuted a new song! “1001 Arabian Nights” comes from some recorded ideas I’ve been sitting on for years, but I finally worked everything out and added some new verses.
I’m not 100% pleased with this performance. I played way too fast, and the vocal mix drowns out the keys at points. I also flipped the fifth and sixth verses, though of course no one but me would know that. I’ll perform this one again soon and get a better–and slower!–performance, but I’m still excited to be writing tunes again.
That said, I really enjoyed writing this piece, and I particularly like the melody. I had a great deal of fun playing around with the desert metaphors, and this might be the only song with the phrase “astrolabe of love.”
As always, here’s the same recording on YouTube; like, subscribe, etc., etc.:
Happy Listening!

I don’t know if you would consider this a compliment but it is meant to be … you know how there are theme songs and movie scores that we just automatically sing along with? Like, for instance, All in the Family’s (… the way Glen Miller played, the songs that made the hit parade…), MASH (Suicide is blue …) – you get the idea; anyway, 1001 Arabian Nights feels like that.

That is an excellent compliment! Thank you, Audre. I definitely wrote this song to have a catchy chorus.

I like the song, mate, but I can see what you mean about the speed. I wonder as well whether for some of these songs it might be better to ditch the keyboard and dust off the guitar. Either that or get a guitar accompaniment from your friend John. I can hear 70s/80s pop rock classics in some of your ventures and wonder whether guitar might be the best instrument for it.
By the way, Audre, you missed out on the great tea debate on the reader’s forum on TCW earlier. Not my peppermint tea comment. Lower down. I do enjoy the mundane from time to time. 😂

I’ll go look for it now …

Yes, once I have a chance to work on this one with John, I think guitar will enhance the piece a great deal.

Mike Haseler starts the ball rolling and it just goes on from there. Like the toast debate. Crikey, I remember that took up half the feed. Back in the days when Raps (God rest his soul), Birtie and Virtual Girl Friday used the site.

Sigh. I miss them. Lovely that you remember them, too. Big hug.

An extension to the tea debate. A couple of us can’t understand the allure of peanut butter and jam sandwiches.

Americans grow up on ‘pb&j with the crusts cut off’. It’s right up there with apple pie and Mom.

I can feel my breakfast coming up! 😩
You might have to tell Chris the same thing. This is turning into quite the conversation.

Ponts, old boy, I think this calls for you and Audre writing competing posts about the PB&J, against and for, respectively.

I’m envisioning two posts, one from Audre, one from Ponty. The former will extol the simple virtues of the humble PB&J; the latter will attack the sandwich as a symbol of lower-class uncouthness (or whatever approach Ponty wishes to take). In wrestling terms, Audre is the face, Ponty is the heel. Let the battle commence!

WHOA! Peanut butter and jelly is probably my favorite “comfort food” lunch. I also love peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

If I didn’t know better, I’d guess you’re looking for some posts to save you a little time, lol!!!
But I’m game if 39 is!

I’d have to eat pb&j to have any sort of opinion and I wouldn’t do it because 1) it sounds disgusting and 2) I have a slight peanut allergy. Tina wouldn’t either but she likes weird peanut butter sandwiches like peanut butter, marmite and dairylea. I can just feel my stomach rising just thinking about it! 😂😂😂
Sandwich fillers change throughout time. Paste used to quite fashionable amongst the middle to upper classes in the 30s, now it’s common enough for us plebs! The English still eat cucumber sandwiches though one has to know the etiquette – cut into triangles, never halves. 😂

If you’d rather write about cucumber sandwiches, go for it. 😂🥒

Methinks Audre is right and you’re after some articles. Once I get back onto the computer, maybe in a few days, I’ll see what I can send over. 👍

I’ve actually got posts scheduled through Tuesday, 5 September 2023, but, yes, I am always up for submissions. I’ll just run them in September. : D

I just spotted your post on yesterday’s piece about Oppenheimer. I wouldn’t be able to acquiesce to that particular request because it’s not a subject I’m well versed in. That would require some major league research and a good deal of thought.
I might have a few politically related, maybe some on social issues – a couple I’m writing for TCW but I don’t have to submit them until the end of the month which is handy – but you know I’ll never be short on movie and game reviews. In fact, if you’re okay with it, I can send you a pre completion review of Skyrim soon. You’ll know why it’s pre completion when I’ve sent it to you. 😂
If you’re good with that, let me know. I do enjoy writing for this site and I’m grateful to you for giving me a platform. I might have something for NEO too but I haven’t written for or posted anything on Dave’s site for a while. I could understand if he turned me down.

Dude, absolutely—I’ll definitely take a Skyrim review. You know that I will take any reviews you want to send. Yours are amazing!

You’re too kind. Though I don’t know about you but I could do with an Audre fix. Has she submitted anything more? I try to catch her pieces on Neo too, when I can.

Audre submitted a post a little while ago that is going up on (I think) Wednesday, 23 August 2023.
