Open Mic Adventures LXV: “Uninspired Étude in E major”

I’m digging back into an old music journal with another piece I penned sometime in 2022, “Uninspired Étude in E major“—so-called because it’s not particularly inspired!  It’s a bit of an exercise in playing arpeggios in E major, with a few little surprises.  It’s highly derivative of Haydn’s work.

Still, I had some fun with this one, particularly the sudden, sharp shift to Bb major for two beats at the end of the first couple of lines.  There’s a certain jaunty fun about this odd little piece:

The description for the above video sums it up nicely:

“Uninspired Étude in E major” is just that—a rather pedestrian, pedantic étude for learning a Haydn-esque arpeggio pattern in E major. It also tosses in some easy multimeter, with each line ending in 2/4 time, for a total of ten beats per line or phrase.

Here’s the handwritten manuscript from 28 November 2022, which I modified slightly in Noteflight.  Mainly, I added some dynamics and repeats to make the piece a bit more interesting (and longer—ha!):

Happy Listening!
