Open Mic Adventures CLI: “Blue Ghost”

Spooky Season IV is coming out later this month, and I finally finished it last week.  The first track I wrote for the album, “Blue Ghost,” is the feature of today’s Open Mic Adventures.

This piece is the companion piece to “Red Ghost,” which I featured last week.  I like the contrasts between them.

Blue Ghost” is a duet for trombone and bassoon with piano accompaniment. The piece is in a melancholy C minor, depicting the doleful sobbing of the pitiable ghost of the title.

Here is the original, handwritten score:

Happy Listening!

  1. I watched your first seven days. Yes, I prefer Evil Dead to the second and third but you’re traversing into murky waters when you describe them as sequels; each directly followed the other which would class them as saga rather than sequel. Still, the third is undeniably crazy and, for me, feels completely separate to the first two which are standout horror classics.

Young Frankenstein is my favourite Mel Brooks movie but I wouldn’t have included it in a Halloween list – it’s a comedy. Peter Boyle played the monster, by the way. He also plays a memorable part in a classic X-Files episode, Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose, as a psychic helping Mulder and Scully track down a serial killer hunting other psychics.

Are our recommendations going to make an appearance?

    • Great point re: Evil Dead being a saga, rather than a trilogy. They are each kind of standalone films, although I guess Army of Darkness follows along where Evil Dead II leaves off.

As for Young Frankenstein, I picked it because a.) I have the DVD and b.) although it’s a comedy, it’s a fun one to put on around Halloween.

In due time, yes! I’m going to plow through some more classics/near-classics the first two weeks, then get into reader-/viewer-submitted ones.

      • I hope you’ve had other recommendations. It’d be good to dig through some horrors I haven’t seen. Like The Intruder which we’re saving until Halloween. Train to Busan too. I’ve watched a lot of horror but these 2 films escaped my attention. Once again, thanks for the tips. 👍

I’ll see if I can send my own creepy offering. I’ve a few in mind though at present, I’m wading through Yotei and Little Nightmares 3 will be on our system at the end of the week.

        • I’m glad I’ve offered up some good recommendations. Thanks for yours!

Speaking of, could you remind me of the films you asked me to review? I know they’re in the comments somewhere, but it’ll save me a few minutes if I inconvenience you—ha!

Nice! Yes, I would love to run anything you have. I’ve gotsta play some Little Nightmares this Halloween season. I’m still playing a ton of Civilization VII, which I am enjoying, especially after this latest big update.

  2. For Tina, The Haunting (1963), for me, Ju-On 2 (2003). Has to be the Japanese original – the US version isn’t bad but the Japanese tale offers more story.

I might review The Descent (2005). That’s a good ‘un. Ticks all the right boxes.
