It was a busy weekend for yours portly, so I’m putting off movie reviews for another week (don’t worry—they will return). In the meantime, I wanted to look at some feedback I’ve received from different folks about Koi Dance.

Guitarist Jonny Latenight wrote the following: “[Koi Dance] was a really enjoyable listen! Especially listening to it at my high stress job[,] it was equal parts tranquility and possibility. I love the sound fonts[,] especially on the strings. I’ve told you this before [,]but your music activates the theater of my mind with ease!”

About the title track, “Koi Dance,” buyer Blastowicz described it thusly:

The first two minutes of this one made me think of if carpenter bees had their own lord of the rings [sic] and your koi pond was Mordor[…] and this music was playing while they were on their way and boring holes through wood.

The two minute mark is when they enter a safe town.

In her write-up at Existential Ergonomics, Erin wrote the following (links in song titles added by yours portly):

We’re all storytellers here, but Tyler does a brilliant job of translating this particular story into the language of music. I was fortunate to get an early preview, and I’m especially fond of “Snail Drop” (partially because I previously enjoyed reading about said snails) and the grand finale, “Sunrise – Variations on Grieg.”

During the listening party, one of my friends really appreciated the cello in several pieces. I don’t have a direct quote, but he was pretty jazzed to hear cello!

What did Dr. Wife think? She said the album “is very nice[.]” That’s about as enthusiastic as she gets about my music, so I’ll take it.
