Now that yours portly is essentially semi-retired (although maintaining our household is a full-time job in its own right), I have more time to work on music for my private music students. It’s really broadened my students’ repertoires with some fun pieces, and it gives us some recital-style work to do outside of the usual method books (although we still work from those, too).
Ergo, I’ve been writing more about lessons and such, so I thought I’d share some recent posts that relate to the teaching of music lessons:
- “New Music Tuesday XXIII: ‘Will’s Waltz’” – A piece I wrote that plays on a common mistake students make—rushing a sequence of quarter notes.
- “General Midweek Update: Beds, Tunes, WiFi, Peloton, Algae, Printers, Presentations” – This post touches on several updates, but also on putting together music for my students, including an arrangement of the “A Theme” from Tetris (sheet music available here, here, and here). I’ve also done a bass guitar duet arrangement of it!
- “SubscribeStar Saturday: SCISA Talk 1: Supplement Your Income with Music Lessons” (SubscribeStar) – My prepared remarks for a presentation I’ll be giving this Friday, 18 September 2026.
Happy Sunday!
