Spring Concert is Tonight!

Hard to believe it’s already here again, but tonight my students play their Spring Concert.  It’s the major event for them and yours portly in the spring semester.

The kids have been working so hard, and it’s going to be a pretty amazing concert.  Last year it ran a little long because we were squeezing in choral and dance performances, but the Choir and Dance Teacher is also the Drama Teacher, so all of her kids performed last night.  That leaves a night completely to my Middle and High School Music Ensembles, so I’ve really put together an extensive (but zippy) program.

The concert is a bit earlier than usual this year, but that will make the rest of the month a bit easier to manage.  I have a couple of kids away on a big trip to Italy, but otherwise everyone should be ready to play tonight.

It’s a quick turnaround for yours portly:  with the play last night, I’ll have to quickly move instruments into place and get in sound checks when able, but it will get done.  I have a good crew of students who can help me move drums and what not, and it makes the work easier.

We have a really good program, with everything from Paul Anka to the Foo Fighters to Kansas and beyond.  My High School Music Ensemble students have very eclectic tastes in music, and I encourage students to submit song ideas, so we have some newer and more alternative cuts on the program, too.

All in all, it should be a good show, and I’ll look forward to a deep, long sleep tonight.
