Gig Day VIII: Tickling the Ivories

Tonight, for the first time in awhile, I’ll be playing a solo gig at a local coffee shop in Darlington, South Carolina.  I’m looking forward to stretching out these stubby fingers and doing some soft rockin’.

Well, it won’t be entirely solo:  my buddy John will be joining me on a number of songs.  His gorgeous twelve-string guitar and his capable backing vocals add a great deal of depth and texture to my tunes, so I’m glad he’ll be joining me.

One of my many goals—some fulfilled, others still so far on the backburner they’re invisible and burnt to a crisp—for the year was to play live more often.  I had a good run of open mic appearances this summer, but I have not had much success booking my own shows. I’ve been reaching out to some venues in South Carolina, North Carolina, and Florida, but have not had much success.  I’ve also been trying to snag some GigSalad gigs, but have also failed to book those engagements (mostly private events looking for a saxophonist).  Of course, glancing over my profile there, I need to make some major updates.

Otherwise, I’ve been scratching my musical itch with tons of composing.  Thanks to regular reader Audre Myers, I’m going to adapt “Plodder” into a Lenten hymn/chorale, just as soon as I locate an appropriate Scripture passage.  That should make for a fun and godly challenge.

As for tonight, I’m looking forward to a fun and relaxed evening—and maybe some t-shirt sales.  Gotsta get the merch moving!

Rock on,

TPP
