Phone it in Friday XLI: YouTube Roundup III

The first “week” of the new school years is nearly in the books, and yours portly is probably a puddle of exhaustion by this point.  After a summer of sleeping in late, taking afternoon naps, and sitting around in air-conditioning, getting back on the move is certainly good for my physical health, but not necessarily for my sleep-deprived mind.  Will I finally develop healthy habits during the school year?  Probably not.

But what better time (and pretext) for another installment of Phone it in Friday: YouTube Roundup Edition?  I’ve actually got quite a bit of new stuff on my YouTube channel, to which you should definitely subscribe (I know for many readers, “subscribe” is a dirty word—God forbid we support our favorite content creators!—but trust me, it’s totally free to subscribe to my YouTube channel).

So, all preambles and bitterness aside, here are some of my recent uploads:

“1001 Arabian Nights” Live at F.E. Pop’s:

The first new song (as opposed to “composition,” which designates an instrumental musical work with no or limited vocals and lyrics) I’ve written in four (!) years, “1001 Arabian Nights” is an exploration of desert metaphors—some with sexy implications. Oo la la!

“Greek Fair” – Live at Lula’s Coffee Company:

My good buddy John Pickett joins me on this powerful live rendition of what I regard as the best song I’ve ever written.  The crowd was really into it that night, and while the video doesn’t show it, everyone was waving their phones in the air throughout the tune.  John also kills it with his harmonica solo on the bridge.

“Parada” – Live at F.E. Pop’s:

Parada” is one of my “deep cuts” that has never enjoyed a studio release, but if I ever do a second EP/album—and, I will say, it’s looking like I may need to get back into the studio at some point—it’s definitely getting featured.  I think this performance was fairly in-the-pocket, and it’s a fun little song to play.  It’s certainly one of the more harmonically complex of my songs, too.

Which of these three was your favorite?  Leave a comment below and let me know.

Happy Listening!

  1. Love the T-shirt, dude! 👍

I forgot to email Audre, by the way, regarding the Walking Dead pieces. If our dear friend doesn’t reply underneath, I’ll send something over later.

As for today, when I get a moment, I’ll be getting my hair cut – I’m starting to look like Eddie in Stranger Things – ready for tomorrow’s CD pub meet up. There’s only going to be 7 of us there but the weather promises to be clement so it should be fun.
