The world has been on fire this week because—in the absence of any real news—President Trump said something on Twitter that’s funny.

The hand-wringing over President Trump’s tweet about “‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen” returning to their home countries to fix them up has had the Left and the Right scurrying to condemn the president.  Ben Shapiro, whose podcast I quite enjoy, dedicated an entire hour to excoriating the president over the Tweet, and another hour to analyze it further.

Shapiro is wrong on this one, and more than a tad disingenuous, which is unusual for him.  He claims that President Trump tweeted that these women should be “sent back” to their countries of origin—which, as far as I can tell, he never said or wrote!  When a crowd at a rally in North Carolina began chanting “Send Her Back!” after the president ran down a litany of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s anti-American, anti-Semitic, pro-terrorist, pro-Islamist statements, that seemed to exacerbate things, the president quickly stated that he did not like or agree with the chant.

On July 14, the closest thing to “send them back” that President Trump tweeted was “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done.”

Despite that, Shapiro went on at length in a podcast about how the “send her back” tweet—which, unless I’m missing something, doesn’t exist!—was bad, but the more nuanced idea of “if they don’t like America, they can go home” was crude, but okay.

Talk about hair-splitting shades of meaning.  Shapiro seems way too hung up on avoiding being accused of racism from people who already think he’s a racist just because he’s a conservative.  Why bother winning over reprobate enemies?

To recap:

• Trump never called for “sending back” or deporting anyone (his only error was that only Ilhan Omar is foreign-born—she came to the United States from Somalia as a refugee; the other women he was likely referring to are Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaid, and Ayanna Pressley—all terrible, America-hating shrews, but, unfortunately, born on American soil).
• The president, rather, suggested cheekily that the women go to places more to their liking, fix the problems of their terrible homelands (if you add AOC to this mix, that adds Puerto Rico to Omar’s Somalia—why do we even still hold onto that little island, anyway?), then bring those solutions back to the United States!

No one—even Ben Shapiro—believes that President Trump actually wants to see any of these women deported (although I think a compelling case could be made for the borderline traitorous Omar).

Shapiro is coming at this non-event not only seeking to avoid being lumped in with it (a doomed proposition—for the Left, we’re all the enemy), but also because he’s sensitive to the nature of “go back to your own country” rhetoric.  As a devout Jew, Shapiro is worried that suspicions about divided loyalties—which I think are entirely warranted in the case of Omar and other unassimilable quasi-Americans—will lead to suspicions about Jews having divided loyalties.

Again, no mainstream American, much less President Trump, whose family is overflowing with Jewish in-laws, thinks Jews are up to something.  The bigger threat to Jewish Americans isn’t white American Christian conservatives; it’s radical Islamists that Democrats insist on importing by the thousands.

So, yes, let’s reject the “send her back” chant of the North Carolina rally.  Instead, let’s chant, “Don’t Let Anymore In!”
