Phone it in Friday XC: YouTube Roundup LC: Old Games

I’ve nearly depleted the Drawer of Forgotten Technology, but I’m continuing to uncover old stuff that I can sell/gift away/donate/play with again.  Today I’m looking at some old games I’ve uncovered, both of which I am selling on eBay (here and here).

SimCity: The Card Game Starter Pack

This card game was a collectible card game from the 1990s.  I only ever had this starter pack, but apparently there were boosters and rare cards, etc.  I never actually played the card game, which I think my Mom gave me as a stocking stuffer one Christmas, but I loved looking at the cards, and “building” little cities by arranging them into blocks.

Scholastic Star Wars Missions

Star Wars Missions was a subscriber-only service offered through the famous Scholastic Book Fairs of the 1990s.  I ordered this starter pack at one point, which includes a lot of cool stuff, but—again!—never played it!  The case is scuffed, but the cards and most of the books are in great shape.  The game was essentially a linear roleplaying game, with dice rolls and decisions not affecting the final outcome of the story, but rather how many points you could score on a mission.

I have some other cool old games in my closets, and I’ll be sharing more of them (including an amazing Lord of the Rings roleplaying game that I will not sell, but will feature here at some point).

  1. We’ve got an old Lord of the Rings rpg. It’s called The Third Age, came out around 20 odd years ago for the PS2 and follows a different group of heroes who are taking a similar journey to the Fellowship.

We keep hoping that in this modern market of retro remakes, it might get a makeover. After all, the only rpgs you can play co-op on are online and Tina and I loved playing that together.

If I had the technology to show you, I’d put up videos on the old PS1 and 2 games we still have and play.

    • That game sounds incredible. There is a really old LotR game for MS-DOS that I remember one of my friends playing when we were kids (and when personal computers were still quite rare). It was amazing in terms of its detail and (for the time) graphics.

  2. By the way, I’m currently playing Red Dead Redemption 2. If you ever want to explore the Old and changing West, have a mosey. It’s a hoot.
