FREEDOM!!!

After what was, perhaps, the most grueling school year I have ever endured, yours portly soon will be free.

Yes, dear readers, today—Wednesday, 29 May 2024—marks the last day of work before summer break.  Yours portly will soon bask in the warm glow of near-limitless free time (for approximately two months).

Not that I’ll be slouching around (well, not the entire time, anyway)—and I’m not quite free from the authoritarian clutches of education.  Next week I’ll begin the first of two sessions of my annual Minecraft Camp, a time-honored tradition to which I dedicate the first two weeks of June.  Then I’ll whisk off to the dentist.

But once that is done, the only real obligations I’ll have will be to the few students who elect to take lessons during the summer.  Otherwise, it’s church, family, Murphy, and Town Council.

One thing I have learned, however, is not to reveal to too many people that you have time off, because folks will come out of the woodwork to get you to help with whatever it is they’re doing.  I don’t fully understand this impulse, as I’d much rather do a task alone than inconvenience everyone around me on their day off.  Regardless, I’ve now spilled the beans to the entire Internet.  Good thing only a few dozen people read this blog—ha!

But I digress.  I’m looking forward to a summer of reading, blogging, writing, composing, playing music, napping, gaming, and the rest.  I’ve already got two albums in the pipeline, releasing on 7 June and 7 July, respectively:  Advanced Funkification and Heptadic Structure.  I nearly have enough material at this point for another album, but I’m searching for my next theme.  If you have any ideas, leave a comment!

For that matter, let me know what you would do with two months of mostly free time.  Would you lounge like Goethe?  Dance like everyone’s watching?  Read a book?  Let me know!
