Myersvision – Why?

One might wonder at times why the Bigfoot people are so gung-ho about what they do. Some of them, I am certain, are charlatans and hucksters, and are putting on a show for clicks and remunerative possibilities.

But there are others who sincerely believe, and respect this legendary creature.  Our senior Bigfoot correspondent Audre Myers is one such soul.

In this short-but-impactful post, Audre details why it is that some folks dedicate their lives, their talents, and their energies to Bigfoot, a creature that is not us, but that seems so similar to us in so many ways:

I’ve just watched the most intelligent documentary about bigfoot that I have ever seen. The presentation was excellent, the interviewees were highly respectable, and the documentary clearly depicts that people involved with this kind of research, or who have had an encounter, are changed by this influence.

Why? Because one, they are not closed off intellectually and have done the research; and two, they have become ‘comfortable’ with the idea that something that looks like us but isn’t us is living its life in its own way and surviving in spite of all the encroachment of man.

A few years ago, I saw an interview with two young men; they were 20something and all excited about being interviewed in front of a real camera and a production crew. The interviewer lead them through why they were out in the woods (hunting trip) and how their encounter happened. They were all upbeat and being 20something but as their story unfolded they slowly settled down and became more focused. They had come up behind the creature – caught it unawares – and as the one young man pulled his rifle into shooting position, the creature turned its head and looked at them. The interviewer asked, “And did you shoot it?” The young man kind of tilted his head and said no. The interviewer interjected, “You would have been famous around the world! Why didn’t you shoot?” The young man looked him in the eye and said, “I couldn’t shoot it (a few seconds of silence passes) I couldn’t shoot it because it looked like us.” I get chills whenever I remember that interview. When he said ‘us’, he meant it looked human and to shoot it would have been murder.

I’m going to end here because I very much hope you’ll watch the video. It’s 48 minutes long and worth the time spent to watch.
