Dr. Wife and I continue our gradual moving process today with another big load. This time, we’re heading from her current residence in North Carolina to our new house in South Carolina.
As part of this stage in our moving process, we stayed overnight at her parents’ new house in another part of North Carolina to dog-sit their precious pug:
Her parents gave us an[other] awesome recliner, so I decided to rent another U-Haul in their town to take advantage of our visit.
However, we ran into a bit of a logistical problem: how do we get two cars and a moving truck down to South Carolina? Alternatively, how do we get vehicles where they need to be without necessitating a six-hour-roundtrip drive to and from Dr. Wife’s place?
She hit upon the solution during a tense bout of logistical scheming last week: tow my car.
It’s interesting seeing how my wife’s brain works. I was attempting to talk through the logistical back-and-forth of our never-ending holiday travel and moving schedule. Amid my amorphous “North Carolinas” and “South Carolinas” (“where in North Carolina are you talking about,” she asked), she finally said, “Give me five minutes to write it down.” She proceeded to write out every step of our travels on her phone—and cracked the code!
So, by the time you read this post, dear reader, we’ll be at her house in North Carolina, soon to load up our U-Haul (containing a single recliner and, in the rear, my Nissan) with various larger pieces of furniture, as well as any incidentals we can cram into the truck. We’ll head down to our new house in South Carolina later today, and engage in another round of unloading, untowing, and returning of our U-Haul.
Dr. Wife has been a real trooper. Amid all of the driving for Christmas, moving, appointments, etc., she’s been recovering from some mysterious Christmas cold. She’s doing much better now, but has a persistent cough that only seems to be fading slowly. In spite of that, she and I managed to move a lot of heavy furniture last week. She has serious guts!
More updates to come—and probably some ibuprofen.

A shame we’re not living in America. I love driving and lifting and carrying doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I’d have helped you both with just a beer as a thank you. 😉
Since I’m not there, I’ll help in spirit. Just imagine two extra hands on the boxes and the move will be as gentle as you hope! 😄
Happy New Year, Mr and Mrs Cook, from me and my better half, Tina. 🍺

We’d love your help! I picked up the rental truck yesterday and they gave me the next size up: a twenty-six-foot truck! It is was overkill for what we’re moving, ha! I’ll have to send some pictures later; it will blow your mind.
Happy New Year to you and Tina from The Cooks!
