Today’s post is going to be unapologetically catty.  I’ve been quasi-hate-reading a blog called Robby Robin’s Journey for awhile now.  The proprietor, Jane Fritz, is the smug-looking lady who inspired some of my Boomer rant last year.  She came to my attention when she wrote a quintessentially Boomer comment on the excellent piece “The Boomer Mentality,” a great post by Erin over at Existential Ergonomics.  Erin is way more intellectually generous than I am; after Charlie Kirk’s assassination, I’ve washed my hands of being generous towards progressives.

Except, of course, I’m writing this post, which probably suggests I care more than I wish.

Regardless, Old Lady Fritz announced on Monday, 6 October 2025, that she is calling it quits in the self-indulgent post “The time has come. I can’t wait any longer.”  It’s her parting salvo with some Leftist political cartoons that compete with another to be as cringy and sanctimonious as possible (also—why do these old lady bloggers write titles that consist of two or more sentences?  It’s like writing the text of an e-mail in the subject line).

Here’s what caught me:  these people are finally facing the slightest bit of cultural pushback, in addition to the significant political losses, and they are completely unable to handle it.  As far as I can tell from reading Fritz’s posts and comments, they are predictably the kind of self-congratulatory drum circles one would expect from a progressive blog (a fairly popular one, from all appearances)—she never met with any real pushback.  Like most political blogs (probably including mine), it was an echo chamber of smug opinions.

But now, with things simply not going her way in the wider world—not even on her little blog!—she can’t hack it.  From her own “About” page, she describes herself as “a twice-over retiree living in Atlantic Canada, enjoying the freedom to pursue some of my interests in more depth than was possible while working.”  Congratulations—sincerely!—to her; that is awesome; I want to be there someday, too!  But it’s not for lack of time; it’s discouragement that America—a country in which she does not even reside—is ruled by “fascists” (she, like most progressives, actually believe that, and has written as such).  In her farewell post, she writes:

I can’t stop thinking about how the country that most people would agree saved the world from Hitler and his evil ways 80 years ago has now become Hitler and those evil ways.

Good Lord!  Seldom have I seen someone with so much life experience possess such an utter lack of historical or political understanding.

But again, it’s this progressive cluelessness and indoctrination that killed Charlie Kirk.  Sure, an old retiree living in a comfortable bubble in Canada isn’t calling for violence—to my knowledge, Fritz has never done so.  She is, however, spreading this ludicrous idea that people whose ideas are mainstream—and are the majority view of most Americans!—are somehow equivalent to a German workers’ party from the mid-twentieth century.

Fritz and her ilk are the embodiment of the AWFL:  the Angry White Female Liberal.  They live lives of unparalleled ease and luxury in make-work fields, then smother the rest of us with toxic empathy and needless do-gooderism.  Just look back at the Progressive Movement from the late nineteenth and  early twentieth centuries:  the people who brought us the income tax, Prohibition, and women’s suffrage were hounded constantly by armies of middle- and upper-middle-class white women who saw every problem as a nail—and they were the hammers.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t feel bad celebrating the hammer-wielding lunatics losing, even when it’s a relatively small battle.

Here’s the thing:  Fritz did write well when she wasn’t on a tear against “muh Nazis.”  She wrote very passionately about ecology.  Yes, she moaned and groaned about climate change (I keep waiting for it, but it never comes on schedule, like a doomsday cult waiting for the UFOs), but when she was just writing about birds and her son’s backyard zoological observations, her pieces were fantastic.

Like so many other AWFLs, though, she couldn’t just appreciate and love God’s Creation and its many peoples.  The saddest thing is that, in her mind, she’s the most compassionate person who ever lived.  And that mentality has doomed us all.
