Ancient Alien Technology V: MP3 Player II

Last week I wrote about an old MP3 player I’d used for years (and which you can buy).  In digging around in my Drawer of Forgotten Technology, I found another MP3 player, this one a Centon MP3 Player that doubles as a USB stick/storage device (you can buy it, too)!

I apparently never really used this one all that much, but I did find ten recordings from a Christmas Concert that my old group, Brass to the Future, played on 20 December 2009 at the Sumter Opera House.  Since I can’t figure out how to remove those files (apparently, I can’t just delete them from the file folder in Windows), whoever purchases it will get those recordings (which, despite my apparent inability to delete them, I have managed to copy onto two external hard drives).

I think one reason I never used this unit too much is because the controls are really wonky, and the display is hard to read.  It doesn’t help that the display changes color every time you press a button, and some of the colors are hard to read.  Regardless, it was apparently cool enough at the time that I splurged for it, and with 4 GB of storage and ease of connecting via the built-in USB stick, it is a convenient and attractive device:

I made a short video showing off the features, too:

The Drawer of Forgotten Technology is running low, so I may be running out of old and/or unusual tech to feature, but who knows what might turn up next?  I’m finding that I have managed to cram a ton of crap into 1000 square feet.  Stay tuned!

  1. We live in a pretty small property so we have to be conservative with space. Tina’s done an excellent job on that score – the house is beautifully decorated and there’s room to manoeuvre – but that doesn’t negate from the fact that we have a storeroom and even car boot littered with old tech.

I put some bags back in the car the other day and realised that we still have an old DVD player and our recently discarded PS4 in there. The player needs to go in the bin but the PS4, with a little tlc, will work again. That means we need to find a home for it, as well as a Yukka we stupidly bought for a house that can’t bear its ever growing frame. 🙈

    • I remember you telling me about the PS4! I’ve done okay selling older tech on eBay (I had a message this morning about the MP3 player featured in today’s post, so hopefully that will sell soon, too). Might be worth selling the PS4—or fixing it up for you and Tina to enjoy!

I’ve been deep cleaning the house and aggressively weeding things out. I have so much accumulated junk, it’s not even funny.

      Godspeed, my friend!

      • Why sell it when we could make someone’s day by giving it to them?

It’ll need a little maintenance but it’ll be good for the next gamers.

        • That is a great point! There are several things that I’ll be giving to my neighbor’s son. But I’m also a bit strapped for cash at the moment with some expensive repairs to my car and home, so I’m trying to rake in some extra dough-re-me.
