Midweek Summertime Update

Yours portly has been busy at work on wedding planning, and generally getting things squared away on that front.  I’m also using this week to knock out all of those quotidian little things that make up life:  dental cleanings, haircuts, oil changes, etc.  July is the slowest month of the year for lessons, and this week is particularly dead:  I’ve already taught all of my lessons for the week!  So it’s the ideal time to take care of things that need doing, but which get pushed onto the backburner the rest of the year.

The blog has been running daily for over 6.5 years at this point; I believe that 1 January 2026 will mark seven years of daily posting.  That is pretty wild to contemplate.

With major life changes on the horizon—marriage, moving, children (God Willing!)—it makes me contemplate whether or not I’ll keep the blog going indefinitely.  I’ve considered stopping at various points, but it’s hard with such a streak going.  If I were to stop, it would like be upon reaching seven years of consecutive posts.  Seven is God’s Number, and it’s a number of completion in the Bible.  I’m not God and I’m not always biblical, but it seems that seven years would make for a solid stopping point.

That said, I’d keep the blog up and would post intermittently.  As for the SubscribeStar site, I’d likely make those posts available for all readers.  There is a yuge catalogue of posts there.  The blog would essentially, at that point, be for major updates—new music, new books, etc.—and the occasional movie review.

I really love the blog, but I can tell it is keeping me from completing other writing projects.  I can’t quite get far enough ahead on the blog to give myself to work on other projects, and I think the blog has had a good run—even an excellent one—thanks to you, dear readers.

For example, I really want to write another Inspector Gerard book.  The One-Minute Mysteries of Inspector Gerard: The Ultimate Flatfoot (Amazon Affiliate link—I get a portion of any purchases made through that link at no additional cost to you. —TPP) took eleventh place in overall sales in Hans G. Schantz‘s Summer Based Book Sale.  That success caught me flatfooted (pun intended).  It would be great to write another volume and flesh out the character of Inspector Gerard further.

I’ve also been kicking around the idea of an illustrated haiku collection, Offensive Poems: With Pictures for a couple of years now.  I have the pictures, I have (most) of the poems; now I need to compile everything.

So, we shall see, dear readers.  But fear not:  TPP will always be around as an archive of work, if nothing else, and there will be occasional posts after the seven-year mark.  These are just my thoughts here in the middle of July 2025, contemplating the busy and, God Willing, blessed years to come.

  1. My advice? Don’t worry about putting something up daily, just knock out one or two things per week. Then you’ll have loads of free time.

I’ve got a ton of stuff to send your way. I just need to write it!😂

Just know that if TPP does stop, I’m happy to have met you, albeit in a virtual capacity. You’re a good bloke. 👍

    • Thanks, dude! My current thought process—not quite a full-fledged, committed plan just yet—is to hit seven years of consecutive daily posts, then basically do a few posts a month here and there.

I would love to run whatever you have! I think the week after the wedding is going to be “The Best of TPP” or something like that, because I will not be messing with the blog during the honeymoon. Anything you’ve got is very much appreciated.

Dude, it’s been such a pleasure, and we will meet in person one day—God Willing!
