It is My Birthday

Today is my birthday.  I’m thirty-eight today, and on the downward slide towards forty.

Growing up, school always started back on my birthday, and this year is no different.  I’ll be ringing in my thirty-eighth year with a long day of mind-molding, followed by a few after-school lessons.

I’m also sick, with the same mysterious respiratory malady that struck me last year.  I can tell that I am on the mend—at least somewhat—at the time of writing, and I hope to wake up today breathing free, but I’m thinking it’s going to be a long day of popping cough drops and chugging water.

^Since writing that earlier on the day on Monday, my fever worsened.  Here’s hoping it breaks overnight and I can get to work, but it’s possible yours portly will be sick on his birthday—and at home.  I hate missing work if I can’t help it, so for me to contemplate taking a day off is a huge deal.  An at-home test for The Virus came back negative, but I’m running a fever of 102.5-102.9 degrees Fahrenheit (Ponty, convert that into Celsius).

I was going to write a bit more about goals and aspirations for my thirty-eighth year, but I’m going to stop here.  It’s time for a hot shower and some Vick’s Vapor Rub.

  1. Many happy returns, mate, from me and Tina. 🙂

I don’t know why but I thought your next upgrade was 36 not 38. If you take it as 36, you have 2 free years to do pretty much whatever you want to! I’d take it, dude! 🙂

Since you’ve got a virus, hole up, whack on some good TV or a good movie and sweat it out. Cuddling up to Murphy should help.

  2. Do NOT go to work if you have fever – that’s when we’re most contagious. Bundle up, hot beverage, plenty of o.j. if you’ve got it. Rest!!!

      • Rest and fluids but either eat oranges or drink o.j. – helps end colds a little faster.

Celebrate your birthday by watching all your favorite stuff on tv, listen to all your favorite music, if you have any appetite – throw together your favorite food and put a candle on top. (better yet – stick a frozen whatever in the mic) Do you have a backyard so Murphy can just be let out at need?

      • I spent the morning bundled up in bed, drifting in and out of sleep. I’m feeling a bit better now, but still out of sorts. I had some good chicken noodle soup for lunch, and will probably do a little reading in a bit.

I do have a backyard, but it’s not fenced. With Murphy, it’s a tossup: I can let her out and she’ll do her thing and come right back to the door; or I’ll can let her out and she’ll wander the neighborhood. Fortunately, I’ve been able to keep her outdoor trips brief.
